Explore our Grounds

You have 90 acres of our private land to explore: magnificent rocky hills, a year round creek, ninety acres of quiet, near-pristine land. There is a history of this land. Native Americans raised families and lived in small settlements thousands of years before the first European Americans seeped in.  They lived, loved, hunted, worshiped, sang, danced, and died – all here. This is what lingers in the atmosphere on the Monkey Flower Ranch, and it feels good. These folks may be gone now – but at one time they laughed, loved, and played on this amazing piece of land.

Bailey Beach:  this is just a few hundred meters from the west side of the house – you will see the steps I constructed by hand – by myself in 110 degrees heat in freaking August of 2019. All those big ass logs I moved by hand. Yes, a big mistake says my sciatic nerve on the left side of my body – but there ya go – a nice path that brings you to Bailey’s beach – named after me, your gracious host. Here you can chill out – there are picnic tables and plenty of room for you to plop down. There is a small barbecue, lounge chairs, even electricity to power your ipod docking stations. And best of all – a year round running creek.

Bailey’s Beach – chill out here!

Depending on the time of year – the creek gets quite over grown, but we try to keep some of it cleared so you can at least get your feet wet. There is quite a bit of privacy here so swim suits are optional. At night, this an ideal place to star gaze since the lights from the ranch house do not affect the darkness, nether do the occasional vehicle headlights on S. Kelso Valley road.

North Beach: is located in the northern part of the property. It too is ideal for sunbathing and chilling out. It is a sandy beach with the creek running through it. If you have brought your horses with you, this is the perfect spot to cross over to get to the western side of the property. If no horses – no problem, you’ll just be getting your feet wet.

West side: is a nice flat walking area – we have a couple of park benches that will greet you with a nice place to sit and enjoy the peace. Pack beers and chill.

Most of the land here is undisturbed, but you will see the evidence of cattle ranching of bygone days, loads of floral and fauna – jackrabbits, bobcats, coyote tracks, and other furry residents on the Monkey Flower Ranch.

On the northwest corner is the remains of an ancient native settlement. Folks lived here for thousands of years before the European settlers, miners, and ranchers came. This area is rich in history of our ancestors. Come here and see what they saw, feel what they felt.

One imporrtant caveat: make sure you head back to the house before dusk. There are no permanent creek crossings and it can be very thick vegetation. It is near impassable at night without certain danger.

East side – Canyon side: This area is great to pitch a tent and still be close enough to see the ranch house. This area gives way to amazing views of the property. And like the West Side, there are remants of the local native settlements.

On the East Side you can find Chill Out Rock and Dead Cheater’s Rock. These are prominent landmarks on the property and to truly have the full experience of the Monkey Flower Ranch. you will need to find these two big rocks.
